Hungaroring

The Hungaroring at Mogyorod in Pest County is operated by Hungaroring Sport Zrt. Construction started on 1 October 1985, the circuit opened on 24 March 1986 and held its first Formula One race the same year. Today the lap measures 4.381 km with 14 corners, the venue holds around 70,000 spectators and it is graded FIA 1. Two rebuilds shaped the layout: in 1989 the chicane was removed, and in 2003 the main straight was lengthened by roughly 200 metres and the hairpin tightened, which grew the lap from 3.975 km to today's 4.381 km. Motorcycles came early: the Hungarian motorcycle Grand Prix ran here in 1990 and 1992, the Superbike World Championship from 1988 to 1990. The Formula One contract is prolonged until 2032. Alongside racing, the operator sells experience drives, open track days, circuit tours, karting and rental of the whole facility. The character of the place is well documented: twisty and bumpy, with overtaking very hard in the dry, which is why it is described as Monaco without the barriers. Because the circuit is used little for the rest of the year it is also known for being dusty - the racing line is narrow and it gets dirty right next to it. For you that means stringing together tight, slow corners rather than riding long sweepers, and every missed turn-in costs you the whole corner that follows. If the bike will not hold a tight line and pushes wide on entry, top of our cause list is too little rear ride height making the steering lazy. Raise the rear, or drop the front a little, so the bike turns in more willingly.
