The Stedelijk Motorcrosscentrum Lommel in the northeast of Belgium has been managed by SMCL since 1994 according to Wikipedia; the ground in the Heeserbergen has served motocross since 1968. The soil is the typical sand of the Kempen. Three tracks share the site: the MXGP course at 1,510 metres for 125s, MX2, MXGP, sidecars and quads, an 85cc course of 508 metres for 65s, 85s and beginners, and a 65cc course of 340 metres for children. The operator prepares the MXGP course on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and sets fixed practice hours: Tuesday to Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., until sunset in winter, closed on Mondays. Online booking is mandatory, an environmental mat has to sit under the bike, the noise limit is 111.9 dBA, and only 20 of the louder machines above 102 dBA may be on track at the same time - you sign in and out by pressing a button. Bikes from 85cc and electric machines above 17 kW are admitted. The calendar has carried the Trophee des Nations in 1981, the Motocross of Nations in 2012 and a world championship round every year since 2008. Deep sand works underneath you: the rear digs in, is thrown back out and starts to build up a rhythm of its own as soon as you open the throttle across the whoops. If the rear pogos and swims instead of driving, top of our cause list is rebound that is too fast - slow it down, a few clicks back, so the rear stays in the ground after each hit instead of springing back.
