Panov

Pánov near Hodonín is a special case in more than one way. The site lies inside a nature reserve where entry is forbidden - you need permission in advance, arranged through the motorcycle shop in Hodonín or by phone. Bikes have to be parked on the paved area beside the track, and on a mat, which can be bought at the shop. Riding happens on Friday and Saturday by prior agreement. The Czech track directory describes three hectares with two motocross courses and several kilometres of enduro trails, and gives the ground as roughly 90 per cent sand and 10 per cent clay. The place is rideable only from autumn to spring; in summer the sand becomes too punishing. That seasonal rule is the real message: Pánov is a winter destination. Plan it for July and you have planned past the place. On a course filed as technical, plenty of riders lose the engine in the tight sections. First item for us: a dragging clutch or a light flywheel - a flywheel weight carries the low revs without the engine dying.
