In sand, the throttle is your suspension
Motocross · intermediate · throttle
Sand is all about drive and weight back. Sit (or stand) further back than usual to keep the front light and floating over the surface instead of digging in. Carry a steady or gently accelerating throttle - in sand the throttle does the work of the suspension, so chopping it pitches the bike forward and buries the front. Let the rear spin and find its own line; fighting it just tires you out. Stay loose, look well ahead, and use a gear higher than feels natural so the power is smooth rather than snappy. Above all, keep momentum: it's the deep, choppy sand at low speed that catches people out.
