Cadders Hill near Lyng in Norfolk belongs to Norwich Vikings Motor Cycle Club, which says it has organised motorcycle events there since 1936. The club describes the venue as a natural hillside circuit, primarily sand based and without too many man made obstacles - spectacular and physically demanding. Its use came in stages: hillclimbs first, then post-war mountain grasstracks on the slope until the ground became too rough, and scrambles from 1949 onwards. The Grandstand Television Trophy ran here in the late 1960s, a 125cc Grand Prix in 1993, and the club has been running British Championship events for over thirty-five years. The track sits one mile from the A1067 Norwich to Fakenham road and three miles from the A47 Norwich to King's Lynn road, postcode NR9 5QZ. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead at all times, with no exceptions. The club does not publish practice days or fees; for motocross it names a contact with a phone number. Our record holds sand plus a fast, technical character with off-camber sections. Sand on a hillside is mostly a traction job: the rear wheel hunts for grip on the climbs, and the smaller the contact patch, the sooner it spins. Top of our cause list is: too much rear pressure shrinks the contact patch - lower it (easy with a mousse) for more grip. Treat that as a starting value and work towards your own.
