Silverstone

Silverstone lies in Northamptonshire between the villages of Silverstone and Whittlebury, on the site of the former RAF Silverstone airfield, which was operational from 1943 to 1946; its three runways still sit within the outline of today's track. The first British Grand Prix was held here in 1948, and in 1950 the race was the opening round of the newly created World Championship of Drivers. The circuit is owned by the British Racing Drivers' Club, which has run it since taking over the lease in 1951. The current Grand Prix layout measures 5.891 km with 18 turns, among them Abbey, Village, Brooklands, Luffield, Copse, Maggotts, Becketts, the Hangar Straight, Stowe and Club. The British motorcycle Grand Prix ran here from 1977 to 1986 and from 2010 to 2019 and has been back since 2021; the operator also lists Bike Track Days in its calendar. A circuit with long, fast sweepers and extended full-throttle sections mainly loads up stability: if the balance is off, the bike goes vague at speed and starts to weave on the straights. Top of our cause list for that is a ride-height and sag balance that is off with the rear too high - set sag first, before you change damping.
