1,200 metres long, six metres wide, just under two hectares of site - the Monetier-Allemont circuit in the Durance valley is not a big operation but a compact natural track that, according to the French sports facility register, was already in service between 1965 and 1974. Moto-Club Monetier keeps it open from 9 am to 5 pm, 12 euros a day, FFM licence; there is a refreshment stand and toilets on site. On a short, fast lap your day is decided in the transitions, not in the jumps. At 1,200 metres every imprecision comes back fifteen times a session - pick two places to get clean rather than being slightly faster everywhere. What to expect on the quick sections: the bike goes vague and restless as soon as the speed rises. Top of our list for that is sag - if the balance between front and rear is off, everything feels woolly no matter how many clicks you turn afterwards. Set sag first, then keep looking.
