2300 metres in the woods - that is the shortest honest description of the Terrain de l'Amitié near L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. The French directory lists it as pure natural ground under trees, run by Moto-Club de l'Amitié, whose club address is in neighbouring Pernes-les-Fontaines. Riding runs from 09:00 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 19:00, but not on fixed weekdays: here you phone before you set off. Ten euros a day plus a fifteen euro annual membership, and you have to show an FFM licence. Woods mean shade, and shade means the ground dries unevenly. The section that already has grip in the sun can still be damp two corners later. Treat the shaded parts with far more respect than the open ones for the first few laps - the difference on this track is bigger than the time of day suggests. The classic on this ground: the front knifes into the rut and oversteers. Top of our list is a fork set too soft - it dives too deep and folds away; add compression.
