Dry loam is the ideal case: grippy, forms lines and forgives mistakes.
After rain loam turns heavy and sticky - knobs pack up and the bike feels noticeably heavier.

The Circuit Michel Pages sits on the Route de Canet (D130) at Aspiran in the Herault and is run by Moto-Club Aspiranais, with Stephan Imbert listed as president. The track is 1700 metres long; mxcircuit.fr describes a natural layout on earth and a permanent homologation. It runs the first and third Sunday of the month, and the venue is closed from mid-June to the end of September. A day costs ten euros, five with a club membership card, and an FFM licence is required. Motorcycles only are admitted, and the club offers instruction sessions. Our record holds a loamy surface with a technical character, that is, ground that keeps its ruts and gives traction on corner exit as long as the rear does not squat. That squat is the first cause on our list when a bike runs wide out of a corner: the rear low-speed compression is too soft and the rear sinks under power. A few clicks more keeps it up and the line tight.
