Fermo - Monterosato

The Monterosato motocross track sits on a hillside near Fermo in the Marche and is run by Moto Club Monterosato. The Marche tourism portal writes that the venue rides well all year thanks to sandy soil that drains the water, and rates it as a track for experienced riders because of its repeated elevation changes and a central descent known for its steepness and length. In 2011 and 2012 it staged the Italian Grand Prix of the motocross world championship. The Mxcenter track directory lists the circuit as category 1 with FMI homologation, 1,600 metres long, on earth and sand; it opens Thursday from 2 to 7.30 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 7.30 pm with a lunch break, with the note to make contact before driving out. A bar, cold and hot showers and 220-volt outlets are on site; there is no floodlighting and no minicross loop. Sandy ground absorbs the hits but costs you drive: on corner exit the rear digs in, it squats under power, and the bike pushes wide instead of following the line - on a track with this descent and the counter-climbs that follow it, every metre lost counts twice. If the rear squats and you run wide on exit, top of our cause list is rear low-speed compression that is too soft: add a little so the rear stays up under load.
