Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps

The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps lies at Francorchamps near Stavelot, about eight kilometres southeast of Spa, and has been in operation since August 1921. The original road course of almost 15 kilometres became the permanent circuit in 1979; today Wikipedia lists the Grand Prix layout at 7.004 kilometres with 19 turns and the motorcycle configuration at 6.985 kilometres with 20 turns. There are a good 102 metres between the highest and the lowest point. Eau Rouge/Raidillon was created in 1939, when the former uphill hairpin was straightened into a fast sweep. Motorcycle world championship rounds ran here between 1949 and 1990; after the roughly 80 million euro rebuild completed in March 2022, with new gravel traps at La Source, Raidillon, Blanchimont, Les Combes and Stavelot, the circuit is laid out for motorcycle racing again. The operator lists the 24 Hours of Spa, the Formula One round and the 6 Heures Moto among its events and also offers sessions in your own vehicle. The elevation change and the long, fast sweeps mean the bike is loaded at high speed through much of the lap while the wheel load keeps moving across the crests and compressions.
