Nürburgring Nordschleife

The Nordschleife is the historic part of the Nurburgring and, according to the operator, 20.832 kilometres long. The complex was opened on 18 June 1927 and is operated today by Nurburgring 1927 GmbH & Co. KG. Formula 1 races were held on the Nordschleife from 1951 to 1976; the motorcycle world championship Grand Prix ran there for the last time in 1980. Public access comes through the tourist drives: according to Wikipedia anyone may ride or drive there for a fee in a vehicle registered for public roads, and the operator names both cars and motorcycles for the tourist drives. No appointment or registration is needed according to the operator; you top up your credit online or on site and turn up during the circuit's opening hours. A lap here takes many times longer than on a normal course, and our record lists the track as technical. That makes the day a question of stamina first: hang on to the bars and your forearms are swollen after a handful of laps, taking your precision with them.
