Trackday preparation: the checklist before you go
A smooth first trackday is mostly preparation. Sort it the night before, not in the paddock queue.
The bike
Tape over or remove mirrors, lights and number plate per the organiser's rules. Check tyres for wear and correct cold pressure, brake pads and fluid, chain slack and lube, coolant (many days require water/water-wetter, not glycol), and that nothing leaks. Safety-wire or check critical fasteners if required. Set sag for your weight beforehand.
The gear
One-piece or zip-together two-piece leathers, back protector, gauntlet gloves, full boots and an in-date helmet. Bring earplugs and, if you have them, tyre warmers and a paddock stand.
The logistics
Fuel the bike, pack basic tools, a tyre gauge, zip-ties and tape, water and food. Read the rider briefing rules in advance and know the flags.
The mindset
First session is sighting laps - learn the track and lines, not lap times. Build pace over the day, leave margin, and come in if anything feels wrong. Setup and prep reduce risk but never guarantee safety.
