Washougal MX Park lies on NE Borin Road in Washougal in south-west Washington state, in a forest of fir trees above the Washougal River, with the Columbia River at the bottom of the mountain. MX Sports Pro Racing lists Ralph and Carolyn Huffman as the operators; the park opened in April 1972, a round of the Pro Motocross Championship has run here since 1980, and Ralph Huffman took full ownership in 1995. The venue is described as an old-school facility where spectators stand close to the action; named sections include the Dunlop Horsepower Hill and the Scott Ski Jump, and seven tunnels lead into the infield. The operator schedules practice days from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and additionally runs 125cc-only practice sessions; a track shop is on site. Our record lists loam with jumps and off-camber sections. The course runs through pronounced elevation changes, and that changes the landings: what you jump downhill comes down correspondingly hard, and that is where you first notice whether the rear absorbs the hit or passes it straight through. Top of our cause list for suspension bottoming hard on jump landings is rear high-speed compression that is too soft - add some so the shock takes the hit under control.
