In one family's hands for over 50 years: Bob and Linda Leach built Albany Motorsports Park out on Berry Drive NE east of Albany, Oregon, and their children Ryan, Robert and Robyn run it today. The site covers 50 acres, the track gets a new layout every week and runs anywhere from three quarters of a mile to a bit over a mile - small and large doubles, triples, tabletops, straights and long sweepers, with berms in almost every corner and a whoop section. The loam is practically free of rock and dust, with some sand mixed in. Practice is Wednesday from 3pm until dark and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 4pm; riding costs 35 dollars, children 6 and under are free, camping is 15 dollars. The track is watered, groomed and lit, with a starting gate, showers and a summer pool on site. Because the layout changes weekly, your first session here is always reconnaissance. Treat it as one instead of chasing lap time off the first jump. On loam the same thing usually gets you: the front knifes and oversteers in the rut. First on our cause list is a fork riding too soft and diving too deep - add compression.
