Mountain View MX Park sits on SE Rude Road in Sandy, Oregon, east of Portland. According to the MX Track Guide directory the course uses the natural terrain of the Pacific Northwest across about 15 acres; tall timber and thick foliage line the track, so this is not an artificial course pushed up on flat ground but one that follows the land as it lies. Riding is seasonal: the facility is open from 1 April to 31 October, weather permitting. Both practice and racing take place, and the operation belongs to the MotoCrossNorthWest group. A concession stand is open except on limited practice days. Drugs and alcohol are banned on the property. Track length, fees and fixed practice times are not publicly documented. Our record has this down as a loam course with jumps and off-camber sections. Natural ground of this kind gets cut deep over the course of a day, and it is in the resulting ruts that you either hold a line or get thrown out of it. If the front knifes into a rut and oversteers on you, top of our cause list is a fork riding too low and therefore folding into the rut - add compression, and the front stays up and follows the rut instead of snagging in it.
