At Rives-Apprieu in the Isere the membership terms carry a clause you rarely see: pay the 120-euro annual fee and you commit to helping with track work on the first Saturday of every month. That is how Moto-Club RTF38 keeps its 1,700-metre, five-metre-wide loop at Les Fouillouses in shape; the site is FFM homologated. It opens on the 3rd and 4th Sunday of the month from 10 am to 6 pm, day ticket 10 euros. Five metres of width over 1,700 metres means the line is mostly dictated and the difference lies in timing. If you find time here it comes from opening the throttle earlier before the jumps, not from a braver line alongside - because often there is no line alongside. Which brings us to the problem that catches nearly everyone on jump faces: the bike kicks instead of leaving cleanly. Top of our cause list is rebound that is too fast at the rear, launching the back end off the face - fewer clicks out and the bike stays flat.
