Baynham Court at Lower Wick near Dursley is not an open practice track but a school with a track attached: Lee Dunham Racing runs a main MX circuit plus a kids' course in the Gloucestershire hills, with pits and changing facilities. Access is by booking only - turning up unannounced does not work here. In exchange you need neither a licence nor your own bike: through the partnership with Kawasaki UK there are machines from 65cc to 450cc plus the KLX models, and the offer starts at age four. Lee Dunham himself brings over 23 years of racing and 30 years of riding, and is the only rider to have won the AMCA British MX2 and the IMBA European MX2 titles back to back in the same year. If you ride here, use the setting: on a booked track with an instructor it pays to work on one single thing rather than to collect laps. When the bike kicks off a jump face instead of leaving cleanly, our first suspect is rear rebound - it returns too fast and launches the back end. Fewer clicks out and the machine stays flat.
