The name carries history: Los Angeles County Raceway on East Avenue T near Palmdale opened in 1964 as a quarter-mile dragstrip and held its final event on 29 July 2007, after Granite Construction pulled the mineral rights to the land. Motocross came back later: today LACR runs three courses across roughly 60 acres on the Mojave plateau at about 2,750 feet, watered through the day. The ground is described as sand with loam in it, and the layout brings doubles, tabletops, whoops, railing berms and natural elevation change; two of the courses count as fast and flowing with long elevated straights. For weekends, call ahead; midweek the place can be booked privately. Desert ground punishes impatience. On long straights into a rough braking zone you do not gain from more throttle but from an earlier, calmer start to braking - anything else ends in bump-stamping. And that is where the typical problem shows up: in fast corners the bike goes vague and unsettled. First on our cause list is sag - if the ride-height balance is off it feels woolly at speed; set the race sag first.
