Glen Helen Raceway is at 18585 Verdemont Ranch Rd near San Bernardino, California, inside Glen Helen Regional Park, whose land San Bernardino County bought in July 1948; the park opened in a first phase in 1967 and fully in 1968, and off-road racing has run there since 1985. The race history is unusually dense: AMA Motocross Championship rounds in 1993, from 1996 to 2009 and from 2014 to 2018, plus world championship rounds from 1990 to 1992, in 2010 and 2011 and in 2015 and 2016. The operator lists practice on Tuesdays from 9am to 5pm, Thursdays from 8am until dusk and on selected Saturdays and Sundays from 8am to 2pm, at 35 US dollars per bike, with spectators free. Several courses are open alongside each other: the national track, an expert and intermediate track, a vet track, a novice and beginner track, a stadiumcross track for 85cc, 65cc, 50cc and e-bikes, and a Stacyc track, with the truck track added most Tuesdays. A liability waiver has to be signed before riding, proper riding gear is required, and the operator states plainly that there are no flaggers and no ambulance on practice days. Overnight stays are only allowed on the nights before race events. Our record has hardpack as the surface, with fast sections, off-camber passages, technical spots and jumps; Wikipedia describes the terrain as steep hills, jumps and banking. On firm, dry ground the contact patch decides whether the front bites at all. Top of our cause list for that is too much front tyre pressure - take some out so the tyre sits wider and the front stops feeling vague.
