Milestone on Holly Street in Riverside was known for its density: 55 acres at a good 830 feet, holding seven motocross courses - main, vet, intermediate, pit bike and peewee layouts - plus a sand drag strip and two RC tracks, one of them asphalt. The intermediate and pit bike courses had lights, with night riding on practice days from 17:00 to 22:00; otherwise it ran Wednesday to Friday from 10:00 and weekends from 9:00 until dusk. The ground counted as mostly loose with berms everywhere and jumps in both size classes, the courses were watered and groomed, and the gate was policed strictly. Riders reported heavy traffic and cramped parking. At a place that gets that busy the key skill is not speed but awareness. Pull off a lap earlier than you want to when the pack thickens - one clean lap alone is worth more than five in traffic. On firm going the first thing to hit you is this: the front feels vague and the grip is missing. Top of our cause list is front tyre pressure - lower it for a bigger contact patch.
