Coyote Mud (Astatula)

Coyote Mud belongs to the Central Florida Motorsports Park on CR 561 near Astatula, northwest of Orlando. At around 275 acres the site is large enough to keep very different vehicles busy at once: five motocross courses, roughly five miles of ATV trails and a big mud pit for 4x4 bogging. A wristband system separates the motocross area from the bogging side so the two do not collide. The ground is described as mostly sandy with firmer sections, plus many berms and jumps in both size classes. Practice is documented Friday and Saturday 9:00 to 19:00 and Sunday 9:00 to 18:00, with primitive or RV-hookup camping. One tip that matters more here than elsewhere: watch the clock before you ride the sand. Spend half the day watching the bog and then go out tired on the sand course, and that is exactly where you collect the crashes. What annoys riders most in deep sand: the rear pogos and swims. First on our cause list is rear rebound - for sand it is usually too fast; fewer clicks out and the back wheel settles.
