Ocala is horse country, and in the middle of it, on NW Gainesville Road, sits one of Florida's most varied venues. Across roughly 100 acres Hardrock Cycle Park lays out six race tracks: a two-mile national-calibre course that can take an extra half-mile expert section, the Outback track for beginners and vintage machines, a dedicated sand track, the Rollercoaster in European style on pure natural terrain, plus hare scrambles and peewee courses. Sunday to Thursday it runs 10:00 to 17:00, Friday and Saturday until 22:00. The temptation at a place like this is to sample everything. Do the opposite: take one course for the morning and only move on once you have strung three clean laps together there. Otherwise you carry your mistakes from track to track. What happens most often in tight technical sections: the engine stalls. Top of our cause list is the combination of a dragging clutch and a light flywheel - a flywheel weight or a properly sorted clutch package takes the low-rpm stalling out.
