Track details
Dry sand gets deep and physical - the front wants to knife in; traction comes from throttle and the rear suspension.
Damp sand hooks up and gets faster - more grip, but heavier, blunt braking zones.
South of the Border MX sits on Highway 301 North in Hamer, South Carolina. The operator describes five tracks plus two pro supercross tracks and states it keeps all the equipment needed to hold them rideable year round; MX and SX training programmes are offered as well. The pricing page separates two groups: riders holding an AMA or FIM professional licence pay 80 dollars a day, 350 dollars a week or 900 dollars a month, while amateurs of all ages pay 150 dollars a day, 700 dollars a week, 1,500 dollars a month or 3,900 dollars for three months. The decisive point for planning is the operator's answer on open practice: none is offered at this time. So this is not a place where you turn up at the gate on a whim. Our record has it as a sand course with jumps and technical sections, and anyone hoping to take in five tracks and two SX layouts in a day needs a schedule anyway. The one action before you travel is therefore organisational: agree a date and the right price tier with the operator in advance - without that confirmation, and without the licence proof for the pro rate, your riding day is not booked.
