Sentul International Circuit

Sentul International Circuit lies in Sentul City in the Bogor Regency of West Java. Construction started in January 1992 under the patronage of Hutomo Mandala Putra, a son of then-president Suharto, as a replacement for the unsuitable Ancol track; Wikipedia dates the official inauguration to 21 August 1993. The lap measures 3.965 kilometres, has eleven turns, is 15 metres wide and runs clockwise; the longest straight is given as 900 metres and capacity as 50,000 spectators. The venue was planned much larger: RacingCircuits.info reports that water intrusion at the northern end forced a shorter final design, one that was never long enough for Formula One. It hosted the Superbike World Championship from 1994 to 1997, the motorcycle Grand Prix rounds of 1996 and 1997, the A1GP seasons of 2005-06 and 2006-07, and the Asia Road Racing Championship over many years. In 2022 the facility was renovated and rebranded as West Java Sentul Circuit; today it is carried mostly by national race series. The long straight feeds into a layout described as tight - you arrive at high terminal speed and then have to haul the bike down hard. For weave at speed, top of our cause list is the ride-height and sag balance: with the rear sitting too high the front goes light and the bike starts wandering down the straight.
