Track details
Dry loam is the ideal case: grippy, forms lines and forgives mistakes.
After rain loam turns heavy and sticky - knobs pack up and the bike feels noticeably heavier.
Seaforde sits on Drumgooland Road near Downpatrick and it is a hillside circuit - that single fact shapes your day there more than anything else. The venue belongs to clubman Norman Green, and Mourne Motorcycle Club regularly runs rounds of the Ulster Solo Motocross Championship there as well as its May Day meeting. On race days bikes are on track from 09:30 and the first race goes at 11:00; adults pay GBP 5 admission, children go free and parking costs nothing. A hillside answers the traction question for you, and it asks it again at every climb. Get on the gas too late out of the corner before the rise and you lose the whole climb - and you will not take it back at the top. Corner exit counts for more here than corner entry. That is exactly where the problem most riders meet on climbs comes from: the rear spins and loses traction. Top of our cause list is too much rear tyre pressure - lower it, the contact patch grows and the grip comes back.
