Pin Tavern MX (Letterkenny)

Little is documented about the track at the Pin Tavern in Ballyraine near Letterkenny, and we would rather write little than write something invented. What is on record: the circuit sits on the site of the old pitch-and-putt course at the Pin Tavern, the Irish track directory lists it as an MX track with an extensive photo tour, and Errigal Motorcycle Club runs cross-country events there. Track length, opening days and prices are nowhere reliably published - phoning ahead is not a suggestion here, it is required. What we do record about its character: technical and tight. On a circuit like that, top speed decides nothing; how cleanly you hold rhythm between two tight sections decides everything. Without track knowledge, ride the first laps a gear higher than you need - it takes the panic out of your right wrist. And that is exactly where the problem tight technical sections create sits: the engine stalls. Top of our cause list is a dragging clutch or a light flywheel - a flywheel weight, or a clean clutch setup, carries the low revs.
