Piste du Four a Chaux - Gaillefontaine

In the 1970s and 1980s the Four a Chaux was a major address: Grand Prix rounds and world championship races ran here, in the heart of the Pays de Bray, 50 kilometres from Rouen and 130 from Paris. The ground on the Route de Neufchatel then lay abandoned for years. In January 2022 the Association Motocross de Gaillefontaine was founded, secured the private owner's agreement for the roughly four hectares and started clearing and rebuilding; sanitary facilities, changing rooms, a reception, a medical room, a workshop, a wash area, a shop and a bar are all planned. The track itself is run by Moto Club du Pays de Bray, the soil is described as calcareous, and the site sits in a bowl of hills with steep slopes. When you ride a revived venue, expect the state of a building site rather than that of a racetrack. Call ahead - at this stage of a project the question is not what the track is like but whether anyone is riding that day at all. The classic problem in worn ruts: the front knifes and oversteers. First on our cause list is a fork set too soft that rides too low - add compression.
