The MX circuit at Szentgotthárd, close to the Hungarian-Austrian border, has held official authorisation since 2012 and is run by Gotthard Racing SE. Its data is unusually precisely documented: 1580 metres long, a maximum elevation difference of three metres, ten jumps and two banked turns. Added to that is an extended enduro section with rocks, concrete rings and logs - if you want technique and lap pace in one day, both sit side by side here. The operation is tightly regulated: Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 15:00, closed on Sunday. Before your first lap come registration, payment and a noise test with a 98 decibel limit. Full protective gear is mandatory and under-18s need supervision or written authorisation. Build the noise test into your arrival time if you are running a fresh silencer - it is not a formality here. With three metres of total elevation change, almost only one thing decides the lap: the jumps. And that is where the classic problem hits - the bike bucks on the face instead of leaving it. First on our cause list is rear rebound; slow it down.
