Mallory Park

Mallory Park sits at Kirkby Mallory in Leicestershire and is run by Real Motorsport. The circuit opened on 26 April 1956 and, at 1.350 miles for the car layout, is among the shortest permanent race circuits in the UK; for motorcycles the Edwina's and Bus Stop chicanes extend the superbike circuit to 1.410 miles. The named corners are Gerard's Bend, the long right-hander, the Shaw's Corner hairpin and the Devil's Elbow, a blind, downhill, off-camber left. Mallory was a British Superbike venue from 1987 to 2002 and again from 2004 to 2010. A local noise ordinance from 1985 limits racing to 40 days a year and bans Sunday racing after 6pm. Current activity includes track days, Classic Racing Motorcycle Club rounds and BMW Motorrad Performance Academy dates; the site has a lakeside diner and bar plus accommodation. On a lap this short the hairpin, the long right-hander and the downhill Devil's Elbow sit close together - the bike has to turn in quickly and hold its line, with little time to correct. Our record has it as fast and tight at the same time. If the bike runs wide in the tight corners and will not be forced onto the line, top of our cause list is too little rear ride height: raising the rear, or dropping the front, sharpens turn-in.
