1.1 miles, nine right-handers and eleven lefts, ten tabletops and three small doubles: Heaven Motorsports Park on County Road A-22 near Raton in northeastern New Mexico is documented with unusual precision. The natural-terrain track is built across small rolling hills, starts uphill and sends you through several off-camber corners; jumps range from ten-foot rollers to 40- and 70-foot distances, all built with safety in mind. The course averages 15 feet wide at present and is being widened, with individual sweepers up to 30 feet. The ground is mostly loose with hard-packed sections, and the venue sits just under 2,000 metres. It is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and weekends from 9am to 8pm or dusk, and riding costs 10 dollars. This is a practice venue; racing is not held here. Plan the access in: the property is kept locked for security and nothing happens without a signed waiver. You fill that out at Hester's Motorsports, Tuesday to Saturday between 9am and 5:30pm - or call ahead and the owners will bring the paperwork to the track. The off-camber corners are the real sticking point: the front pushes and washes out in flat turns. Top of our cause list is a fork that is too firm and riding too high to build any front bite - soften the compression a little.
