Track details
Dry sand gets deep and physical - the front wants to knife in; traction comes from throttle and the rear suspension.
Damp sand hooks up and gets faster - more grip, but heavier, blunt braking zones.
Open daily from 9am until dark, weather permitting - you do not find that often. 5 Points MX on Jefferson Road in Pinetown, North Carolina makes possible what most weekend-only facilities cannot: riding midweek, when hardly anyone is there. The track itself combines motocross and supercross elements in one layout and is built for riders from beginner to advanced. The jumps are deliberately forgiving - no faces that turn a small mistake into a large one. Grooming happens on Saturday mornings and as needed on other days. The combination is the reason to come. Supercross rhythms on forgiving faces are the best practice ground there is: you can learn distances and timing without a missed take-off ending your day. Use it - ride sections, not laps, and stop when your precision fades, not when the tank runs dry. The sand supplies the counter-argument you already know: the rear pogos and swims as soon as it goes deep, and then no rhythm holds. Top of our cause list is rear rebound, usually set too fast for sand. Slow it down and the rear settles - the section becomes rideable again.
Track condition today
Sand at 14 °C, no rain right now - good conditions to ride.
