Sirkuit Tohpati sits on the edge of the city of Mataram on Lombok and is laid out to national standard; the lap measures 1,200 metres. It was built on paddy-field soil, and that is exactly what killed the venue's biggest ambition: Tohpati was first earmarked for the MXGP of Lombok 2023 and inspected by Infront Moto Racing, then dropped. Governor Zulkieflimansyah explained publicly that the ground turns too muddy to ride once it rains, and the track would also have needed widening for spectator access. The world-championship round went to the former Selaparang airport site instead. Nationally the track stays in use: the Lombok Sumbawa Motocross Competition ran here from 24 to 26 November 2023, organised through the provincial tourism department, and insidelombok.id reports 24 billion rupiah of funding from the tourism ministry for it. Our records hold clay as the surface, which fits the picture the cancellation paints: wet, the ground goes soft and greasy; dry, it cuts deep ruts. Top of our cause list for that is fork compression - if the fork rides too low it knifes into the rut and the bike oversteers. Add a few clicks of front compression so the fork stays higher in its stroke.
