Crow Canyon sits near Uhrichsville in eastern Ohio, and it is not an open day-rate track but a club: the directory riderplanet-usa describes access as tied to a membership that is capped at 175 members. Without one you only get onto the property on selected dates and during special events. The roughly 400 acres of wooded ground, between 900 and 1,100 feet of elevation, hold two motocross tracks and about five miles of woods trails, rated there as mostly intermediate terrain with little expert ground. It opens Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 6pm, and night riding is not allowed. The track is prepped on Saturdays through the summer and, between November and February, only when the weather permits. There is a motorcycle and ATV repair shop on site; utility quads are allowed on the woods trails but not on the motocross track. Our own record lists clay ground with a technical character, jumps and off-camber sections. The heavy woods share means a lot of time in tight, slow going with constant work between throttle and clutch - and that is exactly where the engine runs out of revs. Top of our cause list for that is the clutch itself: if it drags, or if the engine carries very little flywheel mass, the revs simply vanish under load.
