Wietstock, south of Berlin, belongs to a club that has existed since 1928: MC-Steglitz Berlin. Its track is one of the few that explicitly admits sidecars - around 1,500 metres of sand and loam, with corners, jumps, tables, waves and berms; alongside it lies a roughly 300-metre children's track for five euros. Training runs Wednesdays and Fridays from 3 to 7 pm and Saturdays from 9 to 12 and 1 to 7 pm - but only in dry weather, which is the club's rule rather than a formality. A Wednesday costs 10 euros, a Saturday 20. The Classic Offroad Festival has also been run here since 1999. Sand and loam together means the ground changes with every hour of sun. Ride early if you want grip, and late if you want to learn how to deal with very little of it. The problem that catches nearly everyone in sand: the rear pogos and swims. Top of our cause list is rebound that is too fast at the rear - fewer clicks out, and the rear stops packing up.
