Knockhill Racing Circuit

Knockhill sits near Dunfermline in Fife and is run by Knockhill Racing Circuit Ltd as Scotland's national motorsport centre. The circuit opened in September 1974 and has been owned by Derek Butcher since 1984. Wikipedia gives the International layout as 2.0389 kilometres with nine corners, the National layout as 1.609 kilometres with ten corners, plus a 482-metre tri-oval. Total elevation change over a lap is 37 metres. The British Touring Car Championship has visited since 1992 and the British Superbike Championship since 1996; the superbike lap record stands to Rory Skinner at 47.126 seconds, set in 2022. The operator sells its own bike track days and testing dates and also runs a 500-metre kart track for ages four and up. The character is tight and undulating: nine corners inside barely two kilometres, including Duffus Dip, a fast, blind-apex downhill right. With so little room between the corners, what matters is how quickly the bike turns in and whether it holds the tight line instead of running wide. Top of our cause list for a bike that will not hold a tight line is too little rear ride height: raise the rear, or drop the front, to sharpen turn-in.
