Holice

Few names in Czech motocross carry as much weight as the Pobezovicka kotlina near Holice - a natural basin, once overgrown with reeds, about three kilometres out of town. The first race ran here on 30 September 1951 in front of 2500 spectators, 1960 brought the first international field with Dave Bickers, and on 28 July 1963 the first World Championship round of the 250 class was held; Vlastimil Valek won it, Joel Robert a year later. World championship rounds followed into the 1970s, the first team championship came in 1967, and in 2009 and 2010 the venue still hosted MX2 European and MX3 World Championship rounds. One point belongs before any trip: Automotoklub Holice states itself that the land is no longer in its majority ownership and that the track therefore cannot be made available for practice. Racing continues - since 2018 as the international Michael Spacek Memorial in early September. On loamy ground and in the tight sections the most common annoyance is a stalling engine. First on our cause list: a dragging clutch or too little flywheel mass - a flywheel weight or a clean clutch setup stops the low-rpm cut-out.
