High Point Raceway

High Point Raceway sits on Taylortown Road near Mount Morris in south-western Pennsylvania, is owned by the Holbert family and operated by Racer Productions. Ground was broken in 1976 and the facility opened in 1977 to a design by Dave Coombs; according to Wikipedia it has carried a round of the US pro motocross championship every year since. The pro track is 1.2 miles long with 18 turns, the amateur track measures 1.0 mile with 15 turns, both on clay. There is a strong off-road history too: the first ever AMA National Hare Scramble ran here in 1979, Grand National Cross Country Series rounds from 1987 to 2002 and again from 2018, plus ATV motocross championship rounds and the DC Vet Homecoming. The operator highlights the natural amphitheatre setting that gives spectators a view over much of the course, and the nickname Country Club of Motocross. Practice days and fees for visiting riders are not documented on the operator site. Our record has clay as the surface plus off-camber passages, technical and fast sections and jumps. On a hillside with no banking nothing carries you to the inside: the front tyre has to hold the grip on its own, and that is where it pushes first. Top of our cause list for that is a fork that is too firm and riding too high to get any front bite - take a few clicks of compression out so the front settles and builds contact.
