Fara Novarese

The Fara Novarese motocross track in the province of Novara carries the name Munzen after the locality it sits in and is run by Moto Club Tiger. The municipality of Fara Novarese describes it as a course of roughly 1,890 metres with 35 metres of elevation change, 13 left-hand corners, 9 right-handers and 12 jumps; the start gate holds 30 places. The venue is homologated by the Italian motorcycle federation FMI in category C for territorial races, and showers and toilets are available. According to the municipality, training is possible every day except race days and public-holiday Mondays; the club puts on about six races a year. The track was built in the early 1970s by enthusiasts, many of whom are still in the club; the municipality names foreign riders, motocross schools and world-championship competitors among the regular guests. Fees are not publicly documented. Those 35 metres of elevation are packed into a short lap, so you are almost always climbing or descending, and the climbs are where the lap is decided: spin the rear there and you lose not only drive but the line into the next corner. If the rear spins on the climbs and never builds grip, top of our cause list is too much rear tyre pressure: dropping it enlarges the contact patch - with a mousse there is no risk in doing so - and the tyre hooks up again.
