Track details
Dry loam is the ideal case: grippy, forms lines and forgives mistakes.
After rain loam turns heavy and sticky - knobs pack up and the bike feels noticeably heavier.
Burnt Ridge has stood on Johnson Road in Onalaska since 2003 and is still run by the Foister family - a family business in Lewis County that riders from Chehalis, Centralia, Napavine and Toledo treat as their home track. Around 70 acres at roughly 950 to 1,000 feet hold one course on loamy, loose ground surrounded by heavy tree cover: small and large jumps, berms and a starting gate, with no hidden nastiness. Open practice runs seasonally from March to October, alongside vintage, quad, UTV and series racing up to national level; overnight stays are cheap, there is a spectator area and a snack shack with hot food, and an EMT is on site during events. The track can be rented privately. A woodland track in the Pacific Northwest has its own rhythm: under the trees the ground stays damp longer than on the open straight. Ride the shaded sections with more confidence in the early laps and the sunlit ones with less - not the other way round. In worn ruts what usually shows up is this: the front knifes and oversteers. Top of our cause list is a fork set too soft that rides too deep - add compression.
