Anderstorp Raceway

Anderstorp Raceway, historically the Scandinavian Raceway, sits in Smaland and is run by Anderstorps Racing Club; the visitor entrance is on Nennesmovagen. The club rents out garages and cabins, runs a campsite on the grounds and puts on a race weekend in May. Wikipedia lists the lap at 4.025 kilometres with eight corners, opened on 16 June 1968. The long straight is called the Flight Straight and doubles as the 1000-metre runway of a small airfield, and several corners are banked. From 1973 to 1978 this was the venue of the Swedish Grand Prix of Formula 1 - the only Formula 1 round a Nordic country has ever hosted. For motorcycles the history reaches back further: the motorcycle Grand Prix ran from 1971 to 1977 and again from 1981 to 1990, and Superbike World Championship rounds followed in 1991 and 1993. Today the calendar is filled by the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, Formula Nordic and the Anderstorp Race Festival. The character comes from long, wide-radius curves and the runway straight rather than from tight direction changes - you stay on the throttle for a long time, and that is exactly where you find out whether the bike sits still at speed or starts to wander.
