WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca sits near Monterey, California. It opened on 9 November 1957 on former Fort Ord land at a cost of 1.5 million dollars. Wikipedia lists Monterey County as the owner, with the organisation Friends of Laguna Seca running the facility. The Grand Prix circuit measures 2.238 miles with eleven turns and has 180 feet (55 metres) of elevation change. Its signature section is the Corkscrew at turns 8 and 8A: a 59-foot (18 metre) drop, with a blind crest and a hidden apex on the uphill approach. Motorcycle racing runs deep here - the World Superbike Championship visited from 1995 to 2004 and again from 2013 to 2019, MotoGP from 2005 to 2013, and national US championship rounds, today MotoAmerica, have been held annually since 1992, with earlier appearances between 1976 and 1988.
