Motocross Rodez (La Vayssiere)

1,800 metres of red earth at five metres wide: the La Vayssiere circuit lies six kilometres outside Rodez on the Route de Villecontal and is run by Moto-Club Ruthenois. The width is the real statement - five metres leave little room for two lines side by side, and the topsoil over it changes character with every rainfall. The club runs a riding school here for MX and enduro, explicitly for ages 6 to 77. On a narrow, technical lap you do not win with speed but with revs. Shift too high, push wide on the exit, and you give away a few tenths at every tight point - and eventually the whole lap. The classic problem here: the engine stalls in tight technical sections. Top of our cause list is a dragging clutch or a flywheel that is too light - a flywheel weight or a properly set-up clutch takes the low-rpm stalling out. Open on Saturdays and on the 2nd and 4th Sunday from 1:30 to 6 pm, 10 euros a day or 40 a year.
