Three tracks sit side by side on North Moor Lane near Messingham, and you pay per track: the MX circuit measures around 1600 metres on loamy, sandy soil and offers tabletops, banked berms, doubles, scrub jumps and straights - GBP 40 for adults, GBP 35 for youth. The auto and pit-bike track costs GBP 30, the beginners' oval GBP 10. Riding is sessioned, usually in three groups: children 6 to 17, novice and intermediate, advanced and expert. It opens most Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 15:30; on certain days each month it stays shut to comply with council noise restrictions. Toilets, parking and a burger van are there, and a photographer on most days. That noise restriction is the planning point. It is not small print - it decides whether there is riding at all, and a look at the current calendar before you leave can save you the entire journey. And the typical problem at the jump faces: the bike bucks and kicks instead of leaving cleanly. Top of our cause list is shock rebound set too fast - slow it down so it stops throwing the rear up off the face.
