Racing has taken place on the Golding Barn Estate on Henfield Road near Small Dole since the 1950s, when the Beamish family held the first meetings; the circuit has now passed its 60th year. It sits in a South Downs valley, the ground is clay-based, and the profile delivers hills, berms and jumps. Practice runs every Wednesday plus the first Sunday of the month, ground permitting; the main track costs GBP 35, the beginner track GBP 20. Flag marshals, a medic, a cafe, toilets and good viewing are part of it, and the KTM Motocross Experience visits roughly twice a month. Clay has an awkward habit: grippy in the morning, glazed by midday, and the first few metres feel much the same in either state. So do not treat the sighting lap as a formality - the grip you had two hours ago does not apply here. The problem you meet on the flat, off-camber sections: the front pushes and washes out. First item on our cause list is a fork that is too firm and riding too high - take a little compression out so the front bites again.
