Cycle Ranch sits on County Road 405 near Floresville, Texas. According to the MX Track Guide directory the site covers 108 acres of red dirt among mature oaks. The main course is built to national format: 1.7 miles long and 30 feet wide, with a concrete 40-gate start, a three-storey timing and viewing tower and a tunnel into the infield. A peewee track and a junior beginner track sit alongside it. Practice runs Monday and Tuesday from 10am to 5pm, Thursday from noon to 6pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 6pm; a day costs 15 dollars midweek and 20 dollars at weekends. Besides the bleachers there is a pavilion with vendors selling food, riding kit, parts and fuel. Our record files the ground as clay with a fast, jump-heavy character, which matches a national layout ridden in long, quick sweepers. That is exactly where a poor balance shows up first. If the bike feels vague and floaty through the fast corners, top of our cause list is ride-height and sag balance being off - set sag before you touch compression or rebound.
