Culham MX Park sits near Abingdon in Oxfordshire and counts as the county's leading venue. The ground is hard pack, with natural elevation changes and a whole series of jumps including step ups and step downs. Practice days and races run exclusively through the GoRaceMX booking platform - sign-on typically from 07:00, riding from 09:00. Alongside open practice the venue has hosted rounds of the British Masters Motocross Championship; a large paddock, catering and private hire come with it. The elevation here is not decoration, it is the reason riders misjudge the jumps. An uphill step up needs more throttle than it looks, a downhill step down needs less - and both only punish you in the landing. Ride them one at a time on a quiet practice day before you take them in rhythm. On hard ground the most common annoyance is a different one: the front feels vague and finds no grip. Right at the top of our cause list is too much air in the front tyre - lower the pressure, the contact patch grows and the front wheel starts talking again.
