Clay Peak sits off Highway 52 near Payette, Idaho, and by its own account is operated by Payette County - a public authority rather than a private club. The grounds cover 200 acres and are open year-round from dawn until dusk. Alongside the motocross track there are two miles of trails that the operator says take in doubles, several tabletops and long, demanding sweepers. The site mentions several annual events but currently lists no date in its calendar. No gate or day fee is documented there, and neither are fixed practice hours - daylight is the schedule. Our record files the ground as hardpack with fast sections, off-camber corners and jumps. The doubles and tabletops are usually what causes trouble first here: if the bike kicks or bucks off a jump face, top of our cause list is rebound coming back too fast, launching the rear off the lip instead of letting it settle. Slow it down before you start changing your body position.
