Circuit Moto Cross du Dumbuhl (Munster)

The Circuit du Dumbuhl sits on the CD417 at the Chemin du Dumbuhl near Wihr-au-Val above the Munster valley and is run by the Moto-Club de Munster. The track directory mxcircuit.fr gives 1500 metres of length at 7 metres wide and describes the ground as hard sand. It is open on Sundays and public holidays from 9am to noon, plus the second Saturday of the month from 1.30pm to 6pm between October and May. Half a day costs 8 euros, an FFM or UFOLEP licence is mandatory, and only motorcycles are admitted - quads stay outside. The windows are short: a Sunday morning here is three hours, not a full day. Hard sand rides differently from loose dune sand, but the physics are the same: the ground gives under load, the rear works constantly and starts to pogo as soon as it returns too fast. Top of our cause list for a rear that pogos in sand is rebound that is too fast for the surface - slow it down and the rear stays in the ground instead of skipping across it.
