The Castiglione delle Stiviere track lies in the Montenero di Astore hamlet in the province of Mantua and, according to the mxcenter track directory, is run by the local Moto Club Castiglione. It is listed at 2000 metres, category 2, with FMI and UISP homologation, and the ground is described explicitly as hard with stones. There is no separate minicross track. Opening times run Thursday to Sunday from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:30, and the directory recommends making contact before you travel. Facilities include a bar, cold and hot showers and 220-volt outlets; there is no floodlighting. The source gives no figures on fees. Hard, stony ground means one thing above all: small sharp-edged chop builds up in front of the corners, and that chop is exactly what makes an over-firm fork go harsh. It then rides high in the stroke, sends every hit into your hands and the front wheel starts dancing under braking. Top of our cause list for that is front low-speed compression that is too firm - open it a few clicks so the fork works again over the small stuff.
